Two touches of evil

I.
The best thing about Mexico is thinking about
Mexico. Old movies that take place there are
filmed at night on lots decorated with
cantinas and cobblestones. Charlton Heston as
a Mexican wears a mustache, and this is all
it takes to designate his race anew.

II.
Sometimes I snap out of a fugue and realize,
in public, that I've been wearing an expression
of terrible pain for who knows how long?
