Staying up until dawn is disappointing.
The night turns out to be the same as the
day: people walk around, eat bagels
and scratch their stomachs, its just
harder to see them. By 6am I feel the
same way I do when I see a photo of
Pam Anderson without makeup.

Sleep gives a person a sense of mystery.
When you wake up, you have the sense
that anything might have happened. If you
were to stay awake twenty-four hours a
day, life would be really plebeian.

I guess its sleep and not nighttime that a
sense of mystery hinges on. But mostly
they go together, as darknesses of
differing intensity.
