A moneyed film buff died and willed his collection to the
Mill Valley Library. This is the only explanation for that
library's film offerings, which, despite diminished public
funds and dwindling library resources, contains nearly half
the Criterion Collection. The movies are all rentable for
one or two weeks, free of charge.
Upon discovery I was paralyzed with greed. Any time I am
faced with a sudden glut of valuble items--all the sections
of the Sunday Times, latkes-- a feeling comes over me like
I don't know where to begin. But this time I was very careful
not to freeze, and I allowed myself to take home two films.
