The false door and the altar stone
I want to ask questions of these paintings.
You there. Why does your infant have
cellulite?
And it is true. There are a lot of babies in
these paintings, and they manage to look
pudgy and skeletal at the same time.
Kahlil palms an orange while gazing
upward at the painted infants.
"I like handling fruit," he says. He
tosses the orange and catches it.
Somehow the guards do not notice that
he has brought food into the museum.
"If you just hold onto a fruit for a
while, it ripens," he says. "The skin
gets thinner and the juice gets
juicier."
